Our Projects
TAIWAN AND UKRAINE: A STRATEGIC COMPARISON
In the early summer of 2023, we completed a project for Dr. Jeffrey Hornung, Senior Political Scientist at the RAND Corporation, investigating what lessons could be learned from the Ukraine conflict and applied to a potential Chinese invasion of Taiwan. We approached the issue from logistical, morale, energy, economic, civilian displacement, and weapons systems lenses.

SOMALIA STATEBUILDING
This project investigates state-building and foreign aid in Somalia. We are particularly interested in how a Somali state could effectively provide political legitimacy to unite the country and strategically manuever to cohere the current balkanized environment. Our final research product will consist of recommendations for how the US should interact with different actors in Somalia (e.g., FGS, Somaliland, Puntland, Al Shabab, etc.) and should structure aid more effectively.

AI DEVELOPMENT IN EUROPE, THE US, AND CHINA
We are copublishing a report with Mathieu Droin of CSIS on the gap in European AI development compared to the US and China.

RUSSIAN NATURAL RESOURCES: A REGIME'S WEAKNESS
We are currently working on a project with Ambassador John Heffern investigating how Russian natural resources could be exploited to weaken Russia’s military/government in the event that conflict between NATO and Russia broke out in the Baltic states.

SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN THE AMAZON RAINFOREST
We are researching how the Amazon can undergo sustainable industrial and commercial growth through the use of "biodiversity pockets" to preserve native organisms. This will preserve scientists' access to the unique biochemistry of organisms in the region which will allow continued innovation in biotech sectors.

US VS CHINA ECONOMIC COMPETITION IN AFRICA
This report investigates US vs Chinese investments in Africa. We are researching how American policymakers and companies can improve their economic relationships with African countries. This will bolster African countries' economic well-being and improve the outcomes of American public policy and private business investment.
